Nayatel Seeks LMKT’s GIS Expertise to Expands its Optical Fiber Network
Nayatel (Pvt.) Ltd., the largest triple play service provider in the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, was looking to expand its optical fiber network. It required an effective GIS platform that would provide a consolidated view of its fiber expansion and network planning activities in real-time.

LMKT proposed a two-tier platform comprising a web-based GIS application and Ericsson Network Engineering (ENE) data migration solution. The GIS web application visualizes data as per the ENE model, providing upstream and downstream network tracing as well as real-time network coverage and connectivity statuses.

Challenge

Nayatel (Pvt.) Ltd. (NTL) is a trusted and reliable telecom service provider offering triple play services to the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. It almost has a 90% coverage area across both cities. It launched South Asia’s first fiber to the home (FTTH)/ fiber to the user (FTTU) network in Islamabad in September 2006 and offers ultra-broadband Internet, modern telephony and digital video services to business and home users. As Nayatel was planning to expand its existing optical fiber network, it was in need of a geographical information system (GIS) platform that would provide a consolidated view of its network planning and fiber expansion activities in real time. It further required the data migration and digitization of its exiting FTTH network spread across three cities.

Solution

Nayatel sought out LMKT’s expertise in GIS to develop an optimum solution to meet their requirements. The two-tier system deployed by LMKT consisted of Ericsson Network Engineering (ENE) data migration and a GIS web-based application.

ENE provides Nayatel with a centralized goegraphical information system for planning, designing, maintaining and documenting end-to-end communication networks for seamless collaboration between engineers and construction workforce. It helps Nayatel’s teams keep accurate records of their inventory; make smarter decisions about cable, towers and service coverage; and measure and visualize issues in the planning, engineering, marketing, sales, maintenance and customer service departments in real-time. It further enables detailed network and fault tracing facilitates both inside plant (ISP) and outside plant (OSP) network design.

The GIS web application visualizes data as per the ENE model, providing upstream and downstream network tracing as well as real-time network coverage and connectivity statuses. It allows Nayatel’s sales team to access equipment, demographics and customer information in a single view to strategically target profitable customers and manage and respond to customer subscription requests efficiently.

Benefits

The successful deployment of LMKT’s solution has enabled Nayatel to streamline engineering and construction operations, with a much faster FTTH rollout; accelerate revenue realization; and avoid unnecessary capital expenditures.

Fast delivery of accurate plans to field

The centralized solution has enabled Nayatel’s team and engineers to automate the network design and gain clear and consistent visibility into inventory statuses, work orders, work order transitions, asset tracking and audit trails. It has provided Nayatel’s management with a means to create plans and see them through to completion, minimizing delays in service availability and greatly increasing efficiency. Additionally, changes can be made from the field, without having to modify paper drawings, thus eliminating the manual redrawing of plant layouts and the associated operational delays.

Optimized network

The new and optimized network with standardized designs has enabled Nayatel’s team to make market-aware use of capital through embedded cost analyses. It has empowered Nayatel’s teams and sales staff to identify areas of explosive growth with high returns on investments, strategically target service calls and marketing campaigns around customer location and profitability, increasing productivity significantly.

Better data management

The solution provides Nayatel with more accurate plant records as well as easier data entry and retrieval with efficient trouble shooting. Additionally, they are able to calculate build costs and generate BOQ/BOMs quickly and more efficiently through the Work Order Management feature with more accurate OSP records.

Response to service requests

Through proximity of network to the customer and detailed network and fault tracing, Nayatel’s sales team is better able to respond to customer service requests and complaints considerably improving their efficiency by 50%. The solution helps Nayatel’s team provide customers with accurate information such as the estimated time it would take for a faulty system to be up and running etc.

LMKT’s collaboration with Nayatel is a testament to its abilities in providing state of the art GIS solutions to its clients, particularly in the telecommunications industry.
